The coupling is made up of inner sleeve, outer sleeve, piston, seal ring, depression bar, bolt and so on. Diagram:

Working principle:
Machining the same taper between the inner sleeve and the outer sleeve ,pump radial high£­pressure oil to expand the outer sleeve ,at the same time, pump axial low £­pressure oil to make the outer sleeve move until reach the designed position , release the radial oil pressure , The outer sleeve shrinks and compresses onto the inner sleeve, the inner sleeve compresses tightly onto the shafts , By using friction to convey torque.

The hydraulic coupling mainly has the following type:
1) Flange hydraulic coupling;

5) Sleeve hydraulic coupling with brake plate;
6) Sleeve hydraulic coupling with dome cover;

Hydraulic coupling is important and key parts in main thrust shaft system, which connect the gear box, shaft and propeller shaft, transmit the power of the engine to propeller when sailing. In the shafting system if connect shaft

and shaft, sleeve hydraulic couplings will be selected. If connect shaft and gear box output flange or intermediate

shaft flange, Flange hydraulic coupling will be selected.

Comparative Analysis of Coupling Keyless and Keyed:

1) Compare with key connection, keyless connection can reduce the diameter of shaft about 10% to 15%, meanwhile the stern shaft seal, bearing, shaft tube can reduce 2 grades. So, reduce the total construction cost of the entire shafting;
2) If machine keyway on propeller shaft, due to high precision, difficulty, and high scrap rate, will increase processing costs;
3) For removable flange coupling, in addition to machine the keyway, but also need to match grind, the hydraulic coupling does not need this process.
4) Because of its conical connection with the shaft, key coupling can not compensate for the error caused by the deformation of hull structure. Therefore, it is necessary to set a short shift to compensate for the adjustment, and then add a set of connecting bolts. The hydraulic coupling connected with the shaft by cylindrical hole, it can be installed in the shaft within a certain range of arbitrary positioning, also can economize the adjustment shaft and connecting bolts.

Shaft with keyway will produce too much concentrated stress, result in crack and lose power when operation, but

if use hydraulic coupling, keyless joint can effectively avoid the accident. Greatly improve the safety factor.
